Fused Glass Designs

About Kiln Forming

Glass fusing is the process of using a kiln to join pieces of glass together.  Glass fusing, slumping, carving, casting and pâte de verre are among the various techniques of creating kiln formed glass objects. Kiln formed glass, also known as “warm” glass, is formed at temperatures typically between 1100 and 1700 degrees Fahrenheit.  Successful kiln formation of glass requires knowledge of  glass compatibilities, firing schedules  and, knowledge of  the particular kiln forming technique used.  Though glass fusing dates back 4000 years, the more recent development of better materials and methods has allowed the art form to reemerge and grow into a viable artistic discipline.
